Family Bingo and Spaghetti Dinner

I would like to extend a huge thank you to the families that attended and to all of the donors and volunteers that made our first Bingo Night and Spaghetti dinner a huge success! We raised $2800 on the evening. I do want to apologize for the oversight on my part in the prize department. I did not think about more than one card winning at a time and feel especially bad for the girls at the end that had to Ro Sham Bo to see who would win the blackout prize. My intention was not to make anyone feel badly, but rather to have a great family night that all could enjoy. I hope in the end that is how it is remembered. I really enjoyed helping in this fundraising effort and could never have done it without the help of all of you. Thank you again for making it such a success!

At this time I would like to recognize all those who either donated or helped with our event. With the help of these businesses and volunteers we were able to make a fun night to be had by all that attended and raise some money at the same time.

February 5th is Teacher Appreciation Night at Arco Arena.

The Sacramento Kings would like to recognize our own Mr. Mark Maroney at the Kings Game against the Phoenix Suns on Friday, February 5, at 7 pm.  The tickets cost just $19.50 (instead of the standard $25.50), and are available online --  you can even print them at home without a service charge!

Here is the link: www.groupshavemorefun.com/DillardElementarySchool#1

This is a great opportunity for our school community to go out and enjoy an NBA game at a reasonable cost!  And, if more than 100 tickets are purchased through our school, Bobby Jackson will come out to Dillard!

Dillard Speaks!

The 2010 C.W. Dillard Speaking competition is titled "Dillard Speaks".  The mission is to give students the chance to perform/speak publicly and boost their confidence.  Instead of limiting advancement to a maximum number of students, progression will be determined by a point cutoff on the scoring rubric.  This cutoff will be determined ASAP.

The rules and guidlines will remain the same as the EGUSD Oral Language Faire guidlines, which can be found here:

Final Competition Verse Choir Judging Sheet
Final Competition Dramatic Interpretation Judging Sheet
Final Competition Humorous Interpretation Judging Sheet
Verse Choir Rules

This is the latest update on our Competition. Students have been working really hard, and this should be a fun event.

Our first round went very smoothly.  The students were well prepared, and did a fine job of presenting.  The coaches/students have been given feedback from our judges on areas to improve, and should now be practicing even harder fo the next round.

If students still need extra coaching, Mr. Morse and Mrs. Arosteguy have graciously offered to help, so have students go see one or both of them.

All students will receive a ribbon, certificate, or medal for participating.

The dates are as follows:

Round 1: January 25 -  after school (3:00 – 5:00) at CW Dillard

  • Complete!

Round 2: February 10  -- Grades K - 3 9am in the MP Room, Grades 4 - 6 at 10am.

Round 3: February 11 – Finals at CW Dillard 6:00 pm in the multi purpose room. This will be a showcase event where students will perform, receive their awards, and dessert will be served. Cameras, friends, acquaintances, and relatives welcome! Please note: This is a new date!

Scrip News
Shop with Scrip
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the scrip program, it is basically money for nothing.  All you have to do is purchase gift cards for stuff you were already going to buy anyway (groceries, gifts, gas, clothes, etc) through our scrip program, and the school gets a check.  It's that simple.  You buy what you want, when you want, and the school gets a percentage.

2010 Changes:
Simplified Scrip is no longer in business!  We are looking into other companies that will allow you to have scrip shipped directly to your home.

We want to encourage you to register your Safeway Club Card and other loyalty cards on escrip.com.  That way, a percentage of any purchase you make comes back to our school.  Our School ID# is 6650293.  (You cannot purchase scrip cards on this site.) Go to http://www,escrip.com to find out more about the Participating Merchants.

Save Money!!!:  Budget yourself by purchasing Scrip for groceries, gas, clothes, holiday spending.
Plan out your monthly budget and use Scrip to help stay on track. We will continue to order scrip from Great Lakes Scrip as we have in the past.  You can order online at www.shopwithscrip.com, or download an order form and turn in to Jennifer Henkens.

Scrip Merchants:  To get a complete list of all the participating Scrip Companies, go to www.glscrip.com.

Shop at Raleys or Bel Air?:  Do you have a Quality of Life Card?  If not, pick one up in the office or call Jennifer at 806-1576 to request one.  Register your card, present it at the register & help to earn money for Dillard.
